| Background | Hemocyanins are respiratory proteins occurring freely dissolved in the hemolymph of many arthropods and molluscs. Similar to molluscs, arthropods are evolutionally distant from mammals, suggesting that hemocyanin from arthropods may induce a strong immune response in mammals. The hemocyanin from the white-leg shrimp (Penaeus vannamei (P. vannamei)), which belongs to the phylum Arthropoda, was considered after several logical thoughts. |
